In that story from John Ormsbee '83, John mentioned that the three were going to stop by Rochester, NY (NY may not be necessary, but I lived in MN for many years). John also asked for drink ideas. I asked him for a follow-up to the visit, and here it is.
It was an absolute gas hosting the guys. Chris Fox does a beautiful job describing their day (Friday) here: http://ephdetour.com/?p=1226.
Note that you received this mention in Chris' write-up - a sort of uncredited cameo, if you will: "We also tried Belinis, a cocktail made with preseco and peach puree (like a peach mamosa) that John learned from another Eph." That's you - O, Eph-in-Exile! Sorry I couldn't get you named specifically, but I promise to try harder next time.
Also, I now posess the makings of a proper Negroni (though I made the game-time decision not to serve any after a fairly robust sampling of beers from Italy, Germany, and western NY, and a rather successful interpretation of the Bellini, if I do say so myself) this means that you need never worry about finding yourself "empty-handed" at 5:00 in the Rochester area - ever.
Beat Amherst,
John
The biker post for the day concludes with this:
we were told that it was time for a “participatory dessert,” a grand finale, the third F. Flambe! The only way to really get a sense of Baked Alaska is to watch the video (Tour de Ephs goes Food Network!).
Thank you, John! What a great day.
Readers with drink suggestions or bike reminiscences are invited to send me a note at dick@swart.org.
(A Mr T Soprano from NJ has asked if Mr Ormsbee and his torch might be available to aid a failing business)
