Jeff Thaler '74 named Visiting Professor of Energy Law, Policy and Ethics at UMaine

This is a great recognition of Jeff Thalers' well-earned expertise in these particularly fields so relevant to us all today.

Energy, environmental law expert Thaler appointed to UMaine post

The release from UMaine begins :
Prominent Portland attorney Jeffrey A. Thaler has been appointed University of Maine Visiting Professor of Energy Law, Policy and Ethics for a two-year period beginning Aug. 29, 2011

“Jeff Thaler is an acknowledged expert in this field, and he will be instrumental to our efforts as we further develop renewable energy academic programming, research and community outreach,” says Susan Hunter, UMaine’s senior vice president for academic affairs and provost.

In In addition to his faculty appointment in UMaine’s School of Economics, Thaler will serve as University of Maine System Associate Counsel, focusing on UMaine’s energy, environmental and sustainability projects and initiatives.

Jeff is also thoroughly a part of the Williams College scene as a  "passionate advocate of experiential education and uncomfortable learning. He created and has directed over the past 5 years the Williams College Winter Study Project “Resettling Refugees in Maine”, and is on the Williams College Boards of the Robert Gaudino Memorial Fund and the Tyng Scholarship."

A description and discussion of this program may be found in the annals of EphBlog. As a part of this discussion, Guy Creese '75 offered this observation:  I knew Jeff in college--he was inclined to wear a train engineer's hat if I remember correctly. He was greatly impacted by his Williams-at-Home course (lived with a family in Appalachia, lived with a family in Detroit). So he's just giving back.

As a part of the recognition festivities, EphBlog-in-Exile has arranged for these crack sychronised drill teams to perform to "Drink a Stein to Dear Old Maine".

Congratulations, Jeff!
